DAY
ONE
|

Heart's Content Walking Trail
From the Lighthouse in Heart's Content to New Perlican
|
Drive
north to visit the Cable Museum in Heart's Content,
then proceed to the Light House. It is a popular destination
to view and photograph the beautiful scenery.
Continue to the community
of New Perlican where there are many traditional saltbox
houses over hundred years old and an archeological dig revealing
artifacts from the 17th c. |

Stop in the community
of Winterton where you will find an excellent boardwalk
around the scenic pond. Pay a visit to the Boat Building Museum.
Continue to follow the road which leads right along the ocean.
Pay particular attention to the gorgeous scenery by New
Chelsea and New Melbourne.
The Lifestyle
Museum in Sibley's Cove has guided tours. They explain the lifestyle of a
fishing community in the 1930s. Keep on going north on Route
80 through the community of Old Perlican. Like most communities
around the Bay, it is renowned for its hospitality and its spectacular
view of icebergs and whales. Grates Cove is on top of
the Baccalieu Trail. You can reach Grates Cove by going through the intersection of Old Perlican and take Route 70 north. Rock walls, formerly used to wall vegetable
gardens and keep out animals, are scattered throughout the community.
Here you will also find information about the Cabot Rock, a
large rock bearing inscriptions, which some claim were carved
by John Cabot himself in 1497. There is a fantastic walking trail in Grates Cove but bring your hiking boots. |

Visit Bay de Verde and the Heritage House, a merchant-class Victorian house built
in 1896 which features many exhibits, including one on the
Baccalieu Island Bird Sanctuary. |
| Drive south on Route
70. You are now on the Conception Bay side of the Baccalieu
Trail. You will pass through several little fishing communities. Stop at Burnt
Point and take a picture of the" Mouse Hole", a hole in
the rock carved out by the ocean. Northern Bay Sands
with its special black sand, has one of the few sandy beaches
in Newfoundland. Carbonear is the major point on the
Baccalieu Trail. There are many museums and walking trails here.
We recommend you stop for supper and later return to Blueberry
Hill via Route 74. |

TWO |
Go south on route 80. Stop in Whiteway and admire the
"Shag Rock". A unique cliff formation sticking out of the
ocean.

Stop in Hopeall to see the beginning of Crout's Way, the 400 year old trail that traces the path of the Cupids settlers as they came to Trinity Bay to meet the Beothuk. Play a little Mini Golf.

Turn east unto route 73 and cross the "barrens" and proceed to Spaniard's Bay. Visit the Anglican Church with its red roof and see the "Lassy Wall."

Bay Roberts Shoreline Heritage Walk
 Cupids 400 Celebrations

See the harbour of Bay
Roberts which is one of the province's largest and safest.
Visit restored Western Union Cable Office Building which contains
the Town Council Offices, The Christopher Pratt Art Gallery
and "The Road to Yesterday" mercantile museum.
Hike the Bay Roberts Shoreline Heritage Walk, one of the most beautiful in the province.
Continue to
Cupids, which John Guy settled in 1610. Participate in the Cupids 400 Celebrations, and view the archaeological digs with over 180,000 artefacts. Visit the new Cupids Legacy Centre. There you can obtain a map for the excellent walking trails around Cupids. All with splendid views. The perfect place to eat your picnic lunch. |
Brigus is one of Newfoundland's
quaintest towns. Visit the childhood home of Captain Bob Bartlett
who was a famous North Pole explorer. While in Brigus, go through
the tunnel which was hand-blasted with gun powder. A real feat at
that time. Return to Bay Roberts where there are several restaurants
to choose from for you to have supper.Then cross the "barrens" on
route 73 to return to Blueberry Hill .

DAY THREE
|
Head
south on route 80. If you are interested in local arts and crafts,
stop at Shag Rock Arts and Crafts in Whiteway and Nik Nak
in Green's Harbour.

Go to the Interpretation Centre in Dildo. Lots of interesting things for you to see there.

| Continue
south to Whitbourne. There you fill find an excellent selection of sweaters and other knitted goods.
Go on to Markland and take a tour of Rodrigues Winery. You will also be able to sample their many delicious fruit wines. Keep
on going south on route 81 and turn west on route 91. This is an unpaved road but in good condition. First stop at the "Salmon Waterways Ladder" and see how they count the salmon. Then continue
take a walk around the Cataracts. (the singage is poor so keep your eyes open) Lots of the trail is
boardwalked. It is an absolutely beautiful area and has one
of the most scenic waterfalls in Newfoundland. Then on to
Placentia, the former French capital of Newfoundland, and
visit Castle Hill. They have guides to tell you about how cod
fishing was done in the 1600s. They also have life-size wax
figures showing how people looked and how life was lived at
that time. Turn north on route 101. Stop for supper at one of
the restaurants at the Whitbourne intersection and then
back on route 80 to Blueberry Hill for a restful evening.
